Editor's Note: Today's devotion is from a new side-by-side family devotional from Max Lucado. Each day offers an adult devotion from Max's Grace for the Moment and a companion devotion for children on the same topic. Parents and children can read their own devotions then talk about it and pray together—growing closer in their relationship with each other, and in their faith! We hope you are blessed by this message...
A Devotion For Kids
Jesus Knows. Some people might think, Jesus, it’s easy for You up there. You’re in Heaven. You just don’t know how hard it is down here. But those people would be wrong. The Bible says He “is able to understand” (Hebrews 4:15 ICB). Jesus knows. He knows because He Himself left Heaven and came to earth. He didn’t send an angel or a messenger. And He didn’t come as God. He made himself completely human. Do you ever feel angry, scared, or left out? Jesus did. Did you know that Jesus was once your age? He had parents to obey and brothers and sisters to get along with. He fell down, and He fell asleep. He went to school and played with friends. He was laughed at, and He was hurt. Jesus knows everything you’re going through. It’s one of the reasons He came to earth — so He would know what it feels like. And so He could help you get through it. Growing in Grace Jesus can help you because He’s “been there and done that.” Is there someone you can help because you’ve been there and done that? Teach a younger child to catch a ball. Help your brother or sister study for a test.
A Devotion For Adults
Our High Priest Read how J. B. Phillips translates Hebrews 4:15:
For we have no superhuman High Priest to whom our weaknesses are unintelligible — he himself has shared fully in all our experience of temptation, except that he never sinned.
It’s as if he knows that we will say to God: “God, it’s easy for you up there. You don’t know how hard it is from down here.” So he boldly proclaims Jesus’ ability to understand. Look at the wording again. He himself. Not an angel. Not an ambassador. Not an emissary, but Jesus himself. Shared fully. Not partially. Not nearly. Not to a large degree. Entirely! Jesus shared fully. In all our experience. Every hurt. Each ache. All the stresses and all the strains. No exceptions. No substitutes. Why? So he could sympa- thize with our weaknesses. Read Together Our high priest is able to understand our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he did not sin. — Hebrews 4:15 Excerpted with permission from Grace for the Moment Family Devotional by Max Lucado, copyright Max Lucado.

Your Turn
Does your family do family devotions? If not, why not start today? Invite your kids (or grandkids) to join in the reading, memorize Bible verses, draw pictures of the devotional content, and share what they think God is communicating through His Word. And, please share with us how it goes! We want to know! ~Devotionals Daily
