Hello there,
This is hard. It's a safe bet that you've had a hectic and extremely stressful couple of months, both professionally and personally. You've realized that everyone, without exception, is making this up as they go along. And you could probably use a chance to step back, get some head space, and think about what the covid-19 pandemic means for the longer-term future of your industry.
EmTech Next on June 8-10 is that chance. It's MIT Technology Review's annual conference on how technology is changing work and the economy, and we've reimagined it as a virtual event for the world of covid-19.
This year we're holding it in partnership with Harvard Business Review, and I honestly can't imagine a better pair of publications to help you make sense of these times. We have access to the world's top technologists, business leaders, and futurists. We've brought a terrific slate of them together to talk you through the trends influencing the future of every industry, the effects of the pandemic, and the approaches you can take to react strategically.
So how will it work?
Over three days, from noon to 5 p.m. US Eastern Time each day, you'll hear from 30+ speakers, interviewed by MIT Technology Review's and Harvard Business Review's expert writers and editors. You'll be able to submit questions during the sessions and follow up with many of the speakers right after their talks. You'll also be able to network with each other, and of course we'll have a wealth of reading materials full of insights and ideas for you to peruse.
Our themes include:
- Crisis innovation and leadership
- Long-term organizational planning and resilience
- Protecting organizations from cyber threats
- Distributed working
- The global economic outlook
- Spotlights on the technologies shaping business—like AI, 5G, digital currencies, synthetic media, robotics, smart manufacturing, and the industrial internet of things
And here are just a few of our speakers:
- Stewart Butterfield, CEO of Slack
- Rebecca McHale, CIO of Booz Allen
- Alissa Abdullah, deputy CSO of Mastercard
- Eric Yuan, CEO of Zoom
- Hans Vestberg, chairman and CEO of Verizon
- Adam Posen, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics
- Amy Webb, CEO of the Future Today Institute
- Yossi Sheffi, director of the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics
- Linda Hill, professor of business administration at Harvard Business School
- Adi Ignatius, editor in chief of Harvard Business Review Group
I hope you can join us. Everyone—including our speakers—is groping for answers. You owe yourself some time to get away from the day-to-day, listen to fresh ideas, share experiences, and reflect on where this is taking you.
