| Hello Friend, Earlier this year, when many of us were sequestered, I had what I thought was a simple idea. Why not invite a few women to a Zoom Bible study based on my book Women of the Bible? I knew we needed to ground ourselves in God and his Word in the midst of the pandemic. Then came week after week of racial protest and civil unrest in which toxic political discourses became even more divisive and embittered. It is no accident that the first of these free Zoom Bible Studies focuses on our challenge as Christians to respond to the racial injustice that is increasingly coming to light in our nation. To that end, my co-author, Jean Syswerda, and I invited a diverse group of women to investigate the lives of two biblical characters who can provide rich insights into this topic: Hagar and Rizpah. https://churchsource.com/pages/women-of-the-bible-videos This Zoom Bible Study, along with the two free chapters from Women of the Bible that tell their stories, is available to you as a free download so that you can use it individually or in a group. Jean and I hope you will find it helpful as you seek to navigate the complex nature of racism in our country. In the next month or two we hope to release shorter studies on at least three more characters – Eve, Ruth, and Abigail. I'll let you know when these are available. Meanwhile, in these unsteady times, I remind myself that, my ultimate hope is not in America, nor in the outcome of a political election, but in the Lord himself. Truly my soul finds rest in God, my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation, He is my fortress, I will never be shaken (Ps 62: 1-2, NIV) I pray you will have the grace to rest in God, the only strong fortress there is.
