HE IS WORTH IT
The wisdom of the magi
From a purely business perspective, such extravagant gifts for a Jewish baby appear to be a very poor investment. As the magi well knew, the throne of David had been without an occupant since the time the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem in 586 BC (see 2 Kings 25:6). The Romans ruled and reigned with a tight fist over a very vast empire with all roads at that time truly leading to Rome. And Israel already had a king, so to speak (Matthew 2:1), who was soon to do everything in his power to destroy the child. Why in the world would the foreign magi make such a difficult journey and throw away their hard earned fortunes?
Being "wise men," the magi no doubt made their fortunes through wise investments. That said, they clearly viewed this world through the lens of Scripture and they believed whole heartedly in the promises of God.
At a time when the economies of the world are so unstable, your giving to ONE FOR ISRAEL reflects your firm conviction in the promises of God to the people Israel, and your strong conviction that the gospel continues to be the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16).
We pray this Christmas season the story of the magi would encourage you to see how your gift of faith is a gift that keeps on giving and inspiring all those who will follow in your footsteps until that blessed day when Israel will look upon him whom they have pierced.
We are indeed thankful for each and every one of you, the wise men and woman of this generation!
Merry Christmas from the ONE FOR ISRAEL family.
