At the end of Chapter 4, Noah, his family, and all the animals were floating safely on the ark. Nearly a year passed before God called Noah out of the ark and established a covenant with him, all of mankind, and all of creation. God also gave His people new direction, instilled fear of mankind into all wild animals, and set his bow in the sky as a reminder of His covenant. The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. —Gen. 9:2 [ESV] And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth." —Gen. 9:12–13 In this chapter, we also see the events surrounding Noah getting drunk with wine from his vineyard, and the cursing of his grandson Canaan. This chapter concludes with Noah's death at 950 years of age. |
