Please register for the in-person or virtual hybrid event here.  Get to Know Your AAPLOG Board Members      MPOC For Life Section Leader Dr. Anthereca Lane  Dr. Lane, where are you from, when did you begin practicing medicine, and what area of medicine do you practice?  I was born in Duncan, Oklahoma and spent a portion of my childhood in Oklahoma and a portion in Carson, California.  I attended medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus, Ohio.  I completed my residency training in 2007 in Dallas, Texas.  I am a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist practicing in Cincinnati, Ohio. What is the best part of being an AAPLOG member for you?  The best part of being an AAPLOG member is the network of like-minded individuals who have a drive and passion for the preservation and protection of human life. AAPLOG is also a great educational resource. What subsection/Committee/project are you leading at AAPLOG?  I will be leading a new subsection called Medical Professionals of Color for Life (MPOC for Life).  What are your goals for this new subsection, and how can others join?  The primary goals are to foster diversity amongst the AAPLOG organization and create an infrastructure by which we can organize and advocate for pro-life concerns as it pertains specifically to communities of color.  This subsection will serve to enhance and broaden the reach of the larger AAPLOG organization. What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your subsection, or pro-life medical professionals in general? How does AAPLOG help you and its other members overcome those challenges? One of the biggest challenges facing this subsection will be establishing ourselves as a subsection that is legitimately dedicated to pro-life issues as they pertain to communities of color.  We do not want to dilute the mission with any other focus.  AAPLOG has a well-established network of professionals that can provide mentorship in the areas of research and advocacy.  This subsection of AAPLOG can also benefit from the respectful, research-based reputation that has already been established for many years and, as a result, open doors to an audience that we may not otherwise reach. FDA leaders have chosen to completely ignore the thousands of women who are showing up in their local emergency rooms due to heavy bleeding, retained tissue, infection, or other complications as a result of medication abortions. A recent analysis of the Adverse Events submitted to the FDA with the REMS in place shows over 3000 women suffering with complications, of which 24 of these women died, and another 500 would have died if they had not reached emergency medical care in time. These numbers will only increase if the current REMS, which require that a woman be seen and evaluated by a licensed healthcare practitioner prior to receiving the medications for an abortion, are removed. This requirement is not restrictive – it is protective. A link to AAPLOG's statement can be found here.  Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act Discharge Petition  This week, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Representative Ann Wagner (R-Mo.), Representative Kat Cammack (R-Fl.). filed the discharge petition for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Rep. Wagner's legislation, H.R. 619, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, mandates that any infant born alive after an abortion receives the same standard of care as any newborn baby. This legislation would also institute penalties for abortionists who allow infants to die or who intentionally kill a newborn. Upon being signed by 218 members of the House, the discharge petition will force a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act on the House Floor. AAPLOG sent a statement to the office of the House Minority Whip on the issue alongside the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. Ohio Wins Victory on Down Syndrome/Abortion Law  The Sixth Circuit in Ohio delivered an important pro-life victory by a vote of 9 to 7 in Pre-Term Cleveland v. McCloud. The court ruled that the state may enforce its law (H.B. 214) that prohibits a doctor from performing an abortion with the knowledge that the mother's reason for having the abortion is that her child has Down syndrome. In his majority opinion on the ruling, Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton stated "that the federal Constitution "permits States to convey their interest in the dignity of all human beings in all manner of ways," including by "seek[ing] to avoid the stigma that comes with publicly acknowledged discrimination against the born and the unborn based on disability, sex, and race."  Thanks for standing with us.
