How You Can Live With Excitement and Purpose May 28 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:25-27 If you've ever participated in athletics, you know the feeling of being in the locker room right before the game starts. You've prepared yourself mentally and physically; you know the task at hand. There's readiness, excitement, and nervousness all mixed together in a flood of emotion. Then finally, it comes… a knock on the door from the official telling you it's time to go. You stand to your feet with your teammates, put your hands together in the middle of a circle, break it out, and run out the locker room doors to go win the game! Now, contrast that feeling with going home from church on Sunday. Most people aren't thinking about the task at hand; they're thinking about what's for lunch! That's because too many Christians are bench players. They don't see themselves as having a significant contribution in the Kingdom, so they enjoy the game from the sidelines. So which are you? Are you a bench player or are you an impact player for Christ? Can you say today, "I'm ready to make a difference for the Gospel"? You have a role to play, and God wants you to play with passion and purpose. Get off the bench and get in the game for Christ! LIVE WITH PASSION AND PURPOSE BY GETTING OFF THE SIDELINES AND INTO THE GAME FOR CHRIST! |
