Jesus sent out His disciples with a message to give to the world. He wanted to spread the good news about the realm of heaven, where God reigns supreme. The people of His day only saw the world around them. The focus was on rituals and external expressions of their religion. But Christ tried hard to help us change. He showed us the importance of making a true connection between us and God. Can we say His words have sunk in?
People need to hear the good news that there is a separate reality. It is infinitely greater and more wonderful than ours. That reality reaches out to us now, as it did back then. It is spiritual. It is an unseen realm where God lives and moves. It deserves our attention, desire, and hope. It is God´s kingdom and is right here, just beyond our ability to see. This secret is vital news for the lost generations of the earth. Hearing Jesus call us is priceless. Investing our souls in Him and His kingdom is the most significant thing we could ever do.
We need to know that heaven is not a distant, inaccessible place. We can and should approach God on His throne. The Son of God is here and at hand for us to come to know. He wants us to spend time in His presence. Jesus wants us to be a part of what He is doing on an eternal scale. Let us open our ears and let Him draw our hearts closer. Let us pray that we learn what Christ means when He says His kingdom is near.
Dear Jesus, please open our hearts to Your great news. Help us see that You are near. Show us what may still create a barrier and keep us from experiencing Your presence. Send the Holy Spirit to peel back whatever does not let us see how close You are. Let Your words sink deep, past our fallen self-centered nature and right to the core of our being. When we realize how close You are, let our voices rise with the angels singing praises to Your name! Amen
1 Chronicles 16:11 ESV / Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Psalm 90:12 ESV / So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV / For he says, "In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you." Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 ESV / Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
Romans 13:11 ESV / Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
