Sometimes, as a journalist, you just get tired of not saying the thing.
I would be sitting in front of people who were in pain, even in danger, and committing to relay their stories faithfully to a broad audience. All the while, I knew what the response would be.
To the grieving woman who'd had an abortion when she found out a wanted pregnancy was not viable, I knew that the pat answer would be "murder is murder." To the woman who'd been twice deported while trying to reunite with her daughters, the response would inevitably be "the law's the law."
Simple, ruthless, and effective.
