Jesus' Last Galilean Ministry |
Jesus' ministry was both aggressive and itinerant. Christ first chose twelve disciples. He then went out and traveled the land with them. He did not wait for people to come to Him, although soon crowds gathered to hear Him and to witness His miracles. No, Jesus traveled the rocky hillside paths that crisscrossed Galilee. He preached beside the sea, on hilltops, sitting in a home in Capernaum, and in the synagogue of His hometown, Nazareth. Christ lived by His famous saying, "The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost" (Luke 19:10). It was seeking that marked His early ministry. Every man and woman in the Jews' ancient homeland needed to hear about—and to hear—Jesus.
In His travels Jesus healed the sick, showing both the authority He had from God and the love God had for human beings. In His travels He taught using parables to deepen His listeners' awareness of His Father's love and all that means to a people who lived such precarious lives. But His message was also challenging. The believer must "seek first His kingdom and His righteousness" (Matt. 6:33). God is not only to be trusted. He must have absolute priority in our lives.
