Many of us want to make it complex, specific and pointed, but it's simple – the single, most important reason you exist is to know God. Void of God's Spirit, your body returns to dust. Living without God's purpose, our work is in vain. Operating outside of God's love makes our plans ineffective. We must put God first in all we do; without Him we have nothing. When man goes to his eternal home, the dust returns to the ground from which it came, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:5, 7). Our verse today defines the duty, the purpose, the very point of our existence – to revere God and keep His commandments. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Genesis 3:19 ESV Every single person will have to stand before God and give an account for what they did in this life. Many people spend each day striving for the pleasures in life that God gives freely. Here are four things you can do to help you place your focus and live according to God's purpose. Recognize that effort apart from God is futile. Put God first. Receive everything good as a gift from God. Know that God will judge the quality of every person's life. Today's One Thing In what ways will you put God first today? Invite Him to be a part of everything you do today. Ask Him to show you how you can grow and experience Him in new ways.
