We need to learn from the Church in Philippi The city of Philippi was a Roman Colony. It was a city with a deep sense of national pride and a destination city for retiring Roman soldiers. When Paul came to Philippi proclaiming, Jesus is Lord, he was also saying, Caesar is not Lord. Following Jesus as 'King' in Philippi would have been seen by some as a subversive and dangerous way of life. For many Christians around the world, following Jesus as King remains subversive and dangerous. We can learn a lot from Paul's Letter to the Phillipian church about living in the public arena.
