Jesus took aside His disciples and gave them authority over disease and dark spirits. Humans do not always have power over sicknesses, diseases, or demons. But God´s Son demonstrated that there are times to display God´s power over natural laws and how we perceive them. We overlook it at times, but this is the underlying reason we approach the Lord in the first place. God lives and works above our imaginings. He moves in realms and with wisdom we cannot fathom. Yet, He has called us to turn to Him. And, He wants to show us amazing things.
That call to God is both a challenge and a privilege. The challenge is to stop trusting ourselves, our world, and our ways. We are to look away from here and strain to see the divine. The privilege is our chance to come to know this Wonder, who is our God. Once our journey with the Lord begins, there will be many more challenges and privileges. But walking with the King of Kings is a high calling. Something that leads to such unimaginable rewards will never be found on the easy road.
Because Jesus sent His followers to work wonders before, we should expect that there will be times He asks it of us. But to go and perform miracles, we will need a healthy dose of Christ´s power and authority. To wield weight like that, we cannot follow the crowd. We must go to God. Let us pray for followers who will invest in their relationship with the Lord to that degree still today.
Please, Lord, move Your little flock to return to You. Make our bond with You so powerful that authority from above works wonders again. Search our hearts and show us how to devote every last intention unto You. In all things, increase our love, need, and devotion. And may Your name be glorified again today, and forever. Amen
Acts 1:8 ESV / But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons. Freely you received, so freely give. 9 Don't take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts. 10 Take no bag for your journey, neither two coats, nor sandals, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food. Matthew 10:8-10
