Countdown to MLK Day

AmeriCorps Jan. 15, 2020 Countdown to MLK Day Greetings,  We are just 3 days away from the annual Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service. Thanks to everyone planning service events and those who plan to volunteer. This year, AmeriCorps is collaborating with the Presidential Inaugural Committee on the National Day of Service to engage more people in service on King Day and to commit to service throughout the year.  It's Not Too Late  With just a few days to go, there's still time to make your own service plans for MLK Day 2021. You can search for projects in your community to join or create your own COVID-19 safe service activities, using some of the tips available on the website. Here are a few ways you can engage, either on your own or as a group, keeping in mind COVID-19 safety guidelines:   Organize your family and friends to engage to clean up a nearby park.   Check on or deliver care packages to isolated neighbors.   Find an organization you're passionate about and make a commitment to serve with them year-round to Honor Dr. King's legacy throughout the year.   Donate to a local organization in need.  Sign-up to learn about opportunities to serve year round. No matter how you choose to serve, remember to STAY SAFE. Make sure to follow CDC and local COVID safe guidance. Share Your Service   Register your service project. Whether you are still looking for volunteers or not, registering your project allows the media to find you and helps others who are thinking about serving get ideas to help their community.  Promote with MLK Day resources  Need tools for your local media promotion? We have a full range of communications resources to support marketing your service opportunity to local media outlets.  Share on Social Media  Another way to connect with the local and national efforts for the King Day of Service is to join us to build momentum for the day.   5 Ways Your voice will help AmeriCorps   Follow, tag, and share posts from our @MLK and @AmeriCorps Twitter and Facebook pages  Use #MLKDay, #MLKDayOn and tag @MLKDay, @AmeriCorps in your posts before, during, and after MLK Day  Find and use sample social media post copy and graphics in our Social Media Toolkit.   Use our "I will serve" and "I served" badges,  encouraging your communities to get involved  Register to serve on MLK Day through the Presidential Inaugural Committee's form. Share your Story. Record A Video. The Presidential Inaugural Committee asks for you to share your story by answering the question, "Why is giving back important to you?". We look forward to hearing your stories #MLKDayON, #MLKDay. You also can share your written story.  Join the Livestream AmeriCorps is pleased to share that in celebration of service and King Day, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host a live stream on Monday, Jan. 18, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Report your Results  A very important part of any successful endeavor is reporting your results. Please share your MLK Day results.  Thank you again for making serving to help others on King Day and throughout the year a priority.
