Federal Resources to Keep Communities Safe Dear CRCL Stakeholders: As you may be aware, on January 12 Acting Homeland Security Secretary Gaynor issued a memorandum to all DHS Components expanding the period of the 59th Presidential Inauguration National Special Security Event to begin on January 13, 2021. In his announcement, Acting Secretary Gaynor indicated that, "The designation of the 59th Presidential Inauguration for this period of time allows the full resources of the Federal Government to be brought to bear in the development of event security and incident management plans to ensure the safety of all participants." (See: Expanding the Period of Designation of the 59th Presidential Inauguration as a National Special Security Event | Homeland Security (dhs.gov). In following Acting Secretary Gaynor's declaration, the DHS Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL), would like to share a list of these Federal resources (provided below) which may be useful for you and your community members. Please share this information with your networks of affiliated stakeholders. If, at any time, you believe you may be in immediate danger, please call 911 and contact your local police department right away. As always, we continue to support the DHS mission to protect the homeland, our people, and our values, and the committed goal of CRCL to secure our nation while ensuring the protection of civil rights and civil liberties. We, therefore, value your partnership as we work together to keep our country safe from the threats we face. We encourage you to share your concerns by emailing communityengagement@hq.dhs.gov. Thank you and please stay safe.
